Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

State Democratic Party Chairman David Young says Gov. Beverly Perdue and Democrats in the legislature deserve your thanks for the hard work they did in putting together a state budget.

And if you would like to make a contribution to the state party, that would be fine too.

Young sent an e-mail today to other Democrats praising the work of Perdue and the Democrats who control the legislature in putting together the budget.

"Drafting this budget wasn't easy, but when times are tough, we North Carolinians dig in, fight harder, and get the job done," Young wrote.

He praised Perdue and legislators for protecting education, eliminating waste and investing in biotechnology and sustainable energy sources.

He encourages Democrats to "reach out to Governor Perdue and your legislators to thank them for their hard work during these difficult economic times."

The e-mail includes a link for anyone inclined to say thanks with a contribution to the Democratic Party.

Re: Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

Charles they did raise taxes on the backs of workers and the middle class. I work hard and with OT I will be hit with a 2 % additonal tax surcharge. Looks like I will be putting less money into the economy. Looks like I will buying less goods, services, and other items that helps put many people to work. I will not do this out of choice, it will happen because the government is taking my money and my freedom away from me. I was going to buy a car, looks like I cannot now. Sorry auto worker, car salesman and future tire maker and car mechanic. There will be one less auto out there for you guys to make a living off of.

Re: Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

Not everyone is mad. NCAE proclaimed victory so they must be satisfied. And the Whalebone area welcomes the new pier. The proposed one dollar cigarette tax dropped to a dime. I don't think everyone is mad at all. Some are quite pleased that the status quo is virtually intact.

Re: Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

This is a time when the General Assembly and the Governor are damned if they do, and damned if that don't. The legislators had to balance the budget, by law, and make up funds from loss revenue due to the recession--started under Bush, not Obama. If they had taxed primarily from the top down, they would be "soaking the rich." If they had taxed from the bottom up (higher sales tax), they would have been raising funds "on the back of the working poor and middle class." So, they split the difference, got the job done, and have made everybody mad.

The lack of appreciation is justified if it is measured only by what each interest group got out of the final budget package. The ingratitude (note the tone of the previous comments) sneers at the quaint idea of working for the common good, if it has not placed their own interests first.

Re: Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

As far as making a contribution?

I think I will save it to pay the tax increase. But thanks anyway for the opportunity to donate to the cause.

Thank you legislators and Governor Perdue for looking out for us

"Drafting this budget wasn't easy, but when times are tough, we North Carolinians dig in, fight harder, and get the job done," Young wrote."

Maybe we could replace that last part (and get the job done) with "and raise taxes in a recession."

But I will give the Dems one thing, they did fight for higher taxes. They never shy away from a good, old fashioned tax increase. You can always count on that.

People will be reaching out to them just like they are reachng out in those healthcare town hall meetings.

Now if we could show them how to fight for reduced spending. I guess it is a hard lesson to learn. The average working family knows how to cut spending. The Dems must not have any average working family members in the GA. It's a shame they cannot find some average family members to run for office. Must be easy to be out of touch with reality if you don't hang around with the average folk. Us poor folk don't bite or anything. I could understand not wanting to live near us but, as elected representatives, they could try to understand the plight of the working family.

Re: Young: Say thanks to Perdue, lawmakers

um.....no thanks

Democrats got us in this mess and I'm suppose to thank them and send them a contribution? Not happening.

Thank You!!! - for raising my taxes...
