Wright indicted on six counts

State Rep. Thomas Wright was indicted Monday on five charges of obtaining property by false pretenses and one charge of obstruction of justice, said District Attorney Colon Willoughby of Wake County.

The indictments, by a Wake County grand jury, follows a lengthy criminal investigation into the Wilmington Democrat's use of personal and campaign money, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Investigators with the State Board of Elections say he used campaign money at Victoria's Secret and that he improperly persuaded a state official to help guarantee a loan.

Wright is in his eighth House term and has rebuffed calls for his resignation. He did not immediately return a message left on his mobile phone Monday.

He previously served as a top lieutenant to disgraced House speaker Jim Black.
