Wrenn: Obama won't win N.C.

Carter Wrenn says Barack Obama won't win North Carolina.

The longtime Republican political consultant writes in the N&O this morning that Obama will not do well enough with Republicans unhappy with President Bush:

And that defines Obama's problem in North Carolina. In Virginia, President Bush is more unpopular than he is here — so, in Virginia, Obama leads. ... Nationally, President Bush's unpopularity has created a blue tide that has lifted Obama's candidacy so he is running about 10 points ahead of where John Kerry was four years ago.

But in North Carolina, Bush beat Kerry by 12 points. Here the tide brought Obama to the dance. It has made the presidential election a close race in the state. But a 10-point lift leaves Obama a tad short of winning the state.

Re: Wrenn: Obama won't win N.C.

Perhaps Mr. Wrenn is working on his special brand of advertising that helped Jesse Helms defeat Harvey Gantt. He is quite familiar with race-baiting ads.

Mr. Wrenn: If McCain wins NC, it was at great expense

Thanks to Obama for not allowing the Republican nominee to just fly over our state on the way to Florida.

Wrenn is letting his bias cloud his analysis.

Re: Wrenn: Obama won't win N.C.

Nice to know Carter Wrenn is physic, now we wont have to vote....

However, if we look at numbers rather than just simply polls we might find something a little different. If the turnout numbers for early vote hold through election day then Obama wins. For example, polls have put African American turnout at 20 or less, if it holds at 28 percent as in the early vote period then that would move the final number up 4 points or more therefore a win.

But all of this is semantics if we don't vote.

I hope he's not right.
