Why does Graham cost more?

Max Borders says Google Ads drive traffic.

In a response to this Dome item, the Red Clay Citizen blogger writes that the Civitas Institute bought ads for certain searches to drive people to its poll results and promote an upcoming event with commentator Juan Williams.

It did not buy ads for Bill Graham, Kay Hagan or Elizabeth Dole, for a simple reason:

They were too expensive! We are a non-profit you know.

Interesting. But why is Graham as expensive as Hagan and Dole? One possibility: A higher click-through rate from people searching for the legendary concert promoter.

Or maybe his campaign is doing really well, Web-wise.

I hate those. Occasionally, I'll get some about the former Indiana governor.

I have google news alerts for all of the candidates and I have never received anything about Billy Graham. I do get a lot abour a CBS News Correspondent Bob Orr.

Re: Why does Graham cost more?

Really, I wish we knew. The Google algorithm for Adwords is a shape-shifting succubus. And Lord we're not that good at keeping her happy. If I could answer your questions, I'd probably go to work for a marketing company doing web ad metrics. Alas, I'm not very good. Those who can suggest AdWords tricks and tips are welcome to contact me.

Not sure I buy that. I've always heard his name as "Billy Graham."

And on my Google News Alert for "Bill Graham," I get three or four hits a day from people talking about some concert, usually by the Grateful Dead.

On the Web, you are your homonym.
