UPDATED: Republicans gave a liberal group taunting GOP gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory a taste of their own medicine Wednesday.
The mascot treatment.
Progress North Carolina Action has traveled the campaign trail with a staffer wearing an owl costume carrying a sign that says "Hoo Pays Pat?" -- a reference to McCrory's refusal to release his tax returns or list of clients from his law firm that lobbies state government.
At a protest at N.C. Republican Party headquarters in Raleigh, the Progress owl was met by another owl -- this one from the GOP who carried a sign that says "Who Pays Hootie?"
Progress North Carolina, like other political nonprofits, does not release its list of donors. The N.C. GOP filed an IRS complaint against the group and a cadre of other liberal organizations saying they violating their nonprofit status by doing political work.
The competing owls apparently mind each other, though the episode surely ruffled some feathers.

I resent the use of the term "flip-flop!"
October 4, 2012 - 3:22pm — tomyknowledgeI think rather than a "flip-flop" you say that the candidate has "evolved."
That would make sense!
October 4, 2012 - 2:59pm — Jackson_TybeeThat way, when McCrory flip flops on another issue, the owl can just flip the sign over. I bet ALL the GOP signs are double-sided. Saves time and money.

October 4, 2012 - 12:20pm — SimpleReasoning...Or Jackson ..... simply the sign has two sides to it. Don't strain yourself.
Dalton has nothing else
October 4, 2012 - 5:49am — cooldelaDalton has nothing else to run on so talking about McCrory's tax return is his only issue. Dalton can't exactly defend Easley and Perdue.
We know who pays Myers Park

Looks like love at first sight to me
October 3, 2012 - 5:22pm — Jackson_TybeeCheck out how those two love birds are eyeing one another. It's good to see the two sides getting along!
BTW, it appears as if a) that photo was taken from the porch of the GOP headquarters on Hillsborough Street. You guys using their staff as your official photographers these days? Times msut be hard at the N&O... and b) no one at the rally actually seems to be noticing the second owl. I'm not seeing feathers flying anywhere. Is a tree falls in the forest, etc. ... c) why is the GOP owl holding the sign toward his body? Doesn't that make it a little hard to read?
Man, the GOP just should not try to be clever. It never works. There were a million better signs their owl could have carried, but... I guess it was the best they could do?
