Tucker's 'be quiet' remark featured in new ads

Sen. Tommy Tucker can't escape his "be quiet" remark.

Progress North Carolina Action, an advocacy group critical of the Republican legislative leadership, raised money to publish a full-page newspaper advertisement in Tucker's hometown newspaper, The Enquirer-Journal, critical of his comments after a recent legislative hearing. "This kind of behavior is unacceptable," the ad states in bold lettering on a red background.

Tucker disputes he told a newspaper publisher "I am the senator. You are the citizen. You need to be quiet." But the ad minces no words: "Did he really say that?! Yes, he did."

The ad -- and a similar one appearing on the newspaper's website -- urges the newspaper's readers to hold Tucker accountable by calling his legislative office and "leave a message telling him that it's the politician's job to listen to the people, not the other way around."
