The Senate gave final approval to a bill that limits how far your car can be towed.
The bill strengthens regulations on towing companies and seeks to curb abusive practices by some companies.
The bill requires a towing company's name and phone number to be posted on a private lot before it can tow a car.
It prohibits hauling a car more than 15 miles away in most cases, or 25 miles at most. It prevents a company from from forcing a vehicle owner to waive legal rights as a prerequisite for getting his or her car back. That last provision means a vehicle owner could go to court with a claim over damage to a car or an exorbitant fee.
The bill now goes to Gov. Bev Perdue for her signature.

I have a truck in Davie
July 8, 2010 - 3:27pm — erichsmithI have a truck in Davie County that is a restoration project. I live in Rockingham County. I plan on finishing the truck here but it will need to be towed here because this is where the engine is. I guess it is not illegal for me to hire someone to bring my property to me. I really wish the government would quit passing laws to protect me from myself.

I asked this before and never got an answer. So, I ask again.
What if there is not an impound lot within that many miles? Is it then illegal to tow any vehicles from such locations?
And if so, whats to stop people from illegally parking in such locations at will, knowing their is no recourse available to the owner of the lot?
