The Council of State members can drop the "elect" now.
In order of the creation of their offices, the nine statewide elected officials took their oaths of office: Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin, Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, Attorney General Roy Cooper, Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson, Treasurer Janet Cowell, Auditor Beth Wood, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton.

Re: The oaths of office
January 10, 2009 - 4:46pm — awbealI don't think "In order of the creation of their offices" is quite correct. The office of Insurance Commissioner is indeed the "youngest" office (est. 1899). The Labor Commissioner office was created in 1887. The Agriculture commissioner: 1877. Attorney General goes back to 1777, as does the office of Secretary of State and the Treasurer. But Superintendent of Public Instruction was only established in 1853. And Lieutenant Governor is also fairly recent, having been created in the 1868 constitution.
