Mayor Anthony Foxx issued a condemning critique of his predecessor, Pat McCrory, Wednesday, urging N.C. delegates at the convention to pay attention to "the most important race we are not talking about right now."
"We have got to get out and work for this man," Foxx said of Walter Dalton, the Democratic candidate.
Foxx, who served on the city council when the Republican nominee was mayor, hit McCrory on transportation while talking at the North Carolina delegation's morning breakfast.
But if you read between the lines, these folks around the state are trying to talk him out of his relatively progressive positions on transportation. He's started listening to Art Pope. ... He's becoming another guy."
Pope is a top donor to Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group much reviled by Democrats.

Foxx's role as mayor is again secondary
September 6, 2012 - 8:01am — concerned53It appears that there is some bad political blood between Foxx & McCrory, being on different sides of the aisle in Charlotte. I recall when Foxx was critical of McCrory's relationship with the dems in Raleigh and the impact he felt that could have on Charlotte. However, since being mayor, Foxx has been more focused on his own future including his relationship with Obama than he has with fulfilling his mayorial duties. And now with his support of what's his name, Foxx is again not considering the long term interests of the citizens of Charlotte as he might just have to work with McCrory, when he is hopefully elected governor of NC.
Andy For Wally !!!
September 6, 2012 - 6:23am — AgentPierceSo Andy Foxx is going to use the "Art Pope The Boogieman" strategy. That will work well with Mayor Andy's pals w/ McClatchy Corp.
