An interesting tidbit from a biography of Jim Hunt:
On January 8, 1977, Jim Hunt's family watched as he took the oath as governor of North Carolina for the first of four times. The previous evening, he had attended an inauguration festival hosted by Andy Griffith, the Tar Heel-born actor whose 1960s television show pictured community values that Hunt wanted the state to emulate in real life.
Dome had not realized Griffith's role in state politics went back that far.
