Stupid host tricks

I wonder what's happening while the public is continuously diverted to thinking about these kinds of subjects by the press. It's like bad soap opera we can't turn off. What were we thinking about all the years when Republicans were holding Congressional tea parties dumping the Glass-Stegall Act of 1933 "getting rid of big govt." (government oversignt of investment houses and banking) during the presidency of Ronald Reagan and beyond, when a series of acts of Congress culminating with the passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999 at which time Republican sponsors, Treasury officials, Hank Greenberg of AIG and others, held the grandest old tea party of all, toasting to the inscription on a cake reading "50 years of Glass-Stegall R.I.P.", thus enabling GROPE (the Greatest Robbery of the People Ever) to be set in motion as $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$$s of good life frosting we'd grown accustomed to be skimmed off by the robber barons of investment houses, Texas builders via inflated housing sucking upfront mortgage money out of lenders, no bid contracts to preferred companies in Iraq, etc., leaving the people eating stale cake crumbs.
