Stimulus is 8 percent of budget

Gov. Beverly Perdue relies on $1.7 billion in stimulus money.

At a presentation this morning, Perdue said that she expects to use money from the federal stimulus package for about 8 percent of her proposed $21 billion budget.

The money would go to three major areas:

Federal Medicaid spending: $1 billion

Education: $581 million

General purpose: $129.3 million

The education spending is a significant part of Perdue's proposal to raise per-pupil spending in the state next year.
