The N.C. Association of Educators posted a video of House Majority Leaders Paul Stam warning supporters not to refer to private school tax credits as vouchers.
Stam, an Apex Repubican, has a bill that would give parents who enroll a child in private school a $2,500 tax credit.
If supporters called them vouchers, he said, their mothers should wash their mouths out with soap.
"The term voucher polls way below tax credit," he said. "So get it out of your vocabulary."

No offense...
February 14, 2011 - 4:14pm — DownEastBoyBut you must not have a firm understanding of the issue. This move will actually save the taxpayers' money and reduce the class size of some public schools - a common complaint from the NCAE.
I also think it is funny that you resort to the "wealth-envy" line when attacking him...but his legislation actually exlcludes families making over $100,000 from using the tax credit.
This is sound policy and the NCAE is upset because their influence is being marginalized. Even President Obama supports moving to a merit based performanace pay scale and moving away from the institued tenure-based system.
IRONY!
February 14, 2011 - 4:10pm — DownEastBoyNCAE always and with few exceptions supports the Democratic Party of North Carolina. During this time, the public education in North Carolina has only its children’s education decline. It is quite humorous to speak to a member of the NCAE discuss some of the hot-button issues of public education. Generally, their responses to a variety of questions begin with “me” or “for teachers.” No wonder there is a general disdain for NCAE, because most citizens want our children to be the central focus of our education system.
The true irony is that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and NCAE are using the same talking points. We can all acknowledge the lackluster education our children are getting under the current Democratic policies…so why not try something new?
This guy is an idiot

Why on earth should taxpayers subsidize private schools?
Excellent Advice!
