Two veteran North Carolina senators say they are planning to seek re-election next year despite rumors that they may join the recent exodus from the chamber.
State Sen. Charlie Albertson of Duplin County, who has been in the Senate since 1993, said he has no plans to retire, Rob Christensen reports.
"Until people hear differently, they can assume I am running," Albertson said. "Right now I plan to run again." Albertson, 77, is a co-chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and is secretary of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Also planning to run again is state Sen. Katie Dorsett of Greensboro, 77, who has been in the Senate since 2003 where she is majority whip. She is co-chairwoman of the Appropriations Committee on General Government and a former Secretary of Administration under Democratic Gov. Jim Hunt.
"At this point I am planning to run," Dorsett said. "Things could change. But my plan is to run."
Influential Democratic Sens. Tony Rand and David Hoyle recently announced retirements.

Re: Smothering rumors
December 12, 2009 - 8:03am — ncstahls413I wonder what the median age is of the Republican & Democratic representatives is. I think looking at 60-year olds as the younger ones to take over for Rand & Hoyle.
