Signs of the silly season

Check your political calendar: It's the silly equinox.

Political reporters sometimes refer to the time of year when campaigns begin reaching (and overreaching) for offenses from their rivals as "the silly season."

After hitting a high in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, it's cooled off a bit. But the leaves are turning in the general election campaign.

Today, Republican nominee Pat McCrory's campaign sent out a press release noting that Will Matthews, a junior-level aide to Democrat Beverly Perdue, donated $50 to attend a fundraiser last night in Sanford, even writing on the memo line of his check "for the future of North Carolina."

"I am giving this young man the benefit of the doubt," said Campaign Manager Richard Hudson in a statement. "Surely he wasn't engaging in campaign dirty tricks when he attended our fundraiser with a tape recorder."

Perdue spokesman David Kochman said they had a good reason.

"Pat McCrory has a habit of taking different positions in front of different groups, so he went to hear what Pat would say in a room of Republican donors," he said.

Re: Signs of the silly season

Bev Perude wouldn't have to send out a guy with a tape recorder and $50 if she wasn't scared. She talks about open government and won't debate in the west, east or anywhere in between. It will be interesting after listening to their tape recorder if we will hear some creative splicing/editing come out of their efforts.

See? Republicans are more fun

It's better than being angry about something all the time. Studies show conservatives have better lives than liberals.

The Silly Season:

Top ten reasons for a Democrat to pay fifty bucks to attend a Republican fundraiser:

10. The Republicans sometimes serve that high class fried chicken with the bones removed.
9. Some Republicans have been known to serve liquor at these things.
8. To see if he really is Clark Kent.
7. Well, there was some talk of a strip club.
6. Networking. You never know when you will need a job and the Republicans own all the businesses and control 93% of all wealth.
5. You have been practicing being a big shot and you want to know if you “can pass.”
4. You are a Wal Mart greeter and you want to meet some of the “other” people.
3. You went with your tape recorder so you could catch those Republicans singing Newt’s “Contract With America.” (sung to the tune of Boy George’s “The Crying Game.")
2. You like raves. And you heard that at fundraisers those Republicans got all worked up and jump around in a frenzied state like whirling dervishes.

And the most obvious reason:

1. To learn how they can call it the “Queen City” when Bev lives in Raleigh?

Let’s face it. Any chance to hobnob with the Republicans is priceless. Step out of the boredom of your life and go to a Republican fundraiser. You can't even go to a "Larry the Cable Guy" show for that!

Re: Signs of the silly season

Why is Beverly Perdue scared to agree to MORE PUBLIC DEBATES???

Re: Signs of the silly season

Those in glass houses...

How big is Pat McCrory's house again? Which family members contributed to the Hagan campaign?

Re: Signs of the silly season

Just remember, the democrackkks will stop at nothing to keep power and to keep dissenting comments squelched as was perpetrated by the Perdue campaign in Asheville last Friday...more developing on this, soon...
