SEIU targets North Carolina races

One of the nation's largest unions is targeting North Carolina elections.

The Service Employees International Union announced today it will spend $85 million targeting swing states for the presidential election as well as races for governor, U.S. senator and U.S. representative.

Among the ten swing states it listed is North Carolina. The others are Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

"We are running the largest and most aggressive political operation in our union’s history for this campaign," said secretary-treasurer Anna Burger in a statement.

It is not yet clear which races SEIU is targeting or how the spending will dovetail with traditional efforts by its recent affiliate, the State Employees Association of North Carolina.
