Andy GriffithAndy Griffith might have had a career in politics.

According to an Oct. 9, 2003, column by Rob Christensen, Griffith was unsuccessfully recruited to run for office in North Carolina. 

A number of Democrats tried to persuade Griffith to challenge Republican Sen. Jesse Helms in 1990. They even printed "Run Andy Run" bumper stickers. 

Still, Christensen writes, Griffith "never seriously entertained" a run for Senate or governor.
