Re: Ruffin Poole indicted

I wonder whether that thought may have crossed Holding's mind?

Re: Ruffin Poole indicted

I don't know how long something like this takes to work it's way through the courts but I'm guessing it will be a long while. So it will be an issue in the 2010 state elections. Add to that the drubbing the Dems got up in Massachusetts. Bad timing for the Dems and probably good timing for the Repubs. I would think the Repubs could make headway with this.

Re: Ruffin Poole, selling our public right to clean water?

I just finished reading the indictment. No surprises; sad. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that Easley's next.

The only silver lining I can find here is "Yeah, that's probably the way it's always been done, but we don't have to tolerate it any more. Moving forward, North Carolinians CAN and WILL hold our leaders to a higher standard."

If Ruffin used his political power to improperly influence a scientific, technical permitting process, I hope he goes to jail for a very long time. Those permit requirements protect the public's highly lucrative rights to clean water that provides:

1. abundant and healthy fish and shellfish,
2. boating, swimming, relaxing, recreation (improves health),
3. scientific knowledge,
4. a dynamic tourism industry,
5. flood protection, and
6. countless other benefits.

Think about the billions of dollars of public money that those rights represent.

P.S. I hope Mr. Holding stays in his post until he has a chance to thoroughly review the Titan Cement shenanigan.

Re: Okay, but as to Ruffin...

The feds don't mess around. Seems likely to me that Mr. Poole is going to have to do some bargaining, and that we'll be seeing more indictments as a result.

Re: Okay, but as to Ruffin...

do ya think he did it?

Re: Sheesh

While John hasn’t held office in years he is still a hot, national topic. As one of North Carolina’s favorite sons it’s hard not to comment about John. Many of us Dome posters are very shallow. Hopefully the John Edward’s story is winding down. The Ruffin Poole story looks like it’s just getting started and will probably last for years and years. And that PDF file accompanying the Dome story was, like, over 60 pages of legalese. John’s story in the Enquirer was shorter and had pictures. And John’s story involved sex! That’s of more interest to the lower caliber posters who are not sure what 'indicted' means. Don’t blame Dome for having some of us lower caliber people as readers. Dome can’t help that. I’m sure some of the high class sites are really covering the Poole story. Dome is a place where the poor and rich can mingle, where the low brow people can post with the literary types.

Dome is a place that makes me proud to call North Carolina home!

Re: Ruffin Poole indicted

Under the Dome, this is the major NC political story of the week/month, and it's swamped by repeated postings about a guy who hasn't held elected office in YEARS.

Sheesh.

Re: Ruffin Poole indicted

And more to come . . .

Re: Ruffin Poole indicted

Awesome.

I give money to my church to stop aides.
