Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Walter JonesRon Paul is raising money for U.S. Rep. Walter Jones.

The Republican presidential candidate sent out an e-mail to supporters today asking them to donate to Jones' re-election campaign.

He writes that "not every Republican" is happy about the Farmville Republican's stances, leading to a primary challenge from former Onslow County Commissioner Joe McLaughlin:

He faces a primary challenge, backed by those who do not want oversight of the administration. They do not appreciate the hard questions that he has asked about the war in Iraq, his stance on preserving individual liberties, and his commitment to upholding the sovereignty of the United States by rejecting bogus "free trade agreements."

Paul then directs supporters to an online donation site.

The final line of the e-mail notes that it was paid for by Jones' re-election committee. Jones has praised Paul's campaign, but he has not officially endorsed anyone.

After the jump, the text of the e-mail.

February 21, 2008

I am writing today to ask for your help -- not for me, but for a fellow North Carolina friend of liberty, my friend Congressman Walter Jones.

You, more than most, know that our nation is at an important crossroads.

Will we return to limited, constitutional government? Or will our country continue to expand the size and scope of government, restrict personal liberties, and persist in spending billions of dollars overseas in foreign aid and foreign adventures?

The stakes are high. The window of time to successfully correct our country's path is short, and -- truthfully -- the number of members of Congress who understand what is held in the balance is few.

That is why it is vital that Congressman Walter Jones be reelected.

While other members talk about limited government and respecting the Constitution, my fellow Liberty Caucus member Walter Jones actually does something about it.

That's why, on the McLaughlin Group, Pat Buchanan awarded Rep. Walter Jones "Most Original Thinker of 2007" for his resolution to prohibit war on Iran without Congressional approval -- a bill I proudly cosponsor.

That's why Walter joined me in introducing the We the People Act (HR 300) in 2007 to limit the jurisdiction of federal courts that are handing down decisions that many times over turn specific state laws that should be protected by the 10th Amendment.

That's why Walter Jones has joined me in saying "no" to the North American Union; "no" to big government spending; and "no" to the Federal Reserve's efforts to obscure the true scope of their creation of money and credit.

In short, there are few congressmen like Walter Jones who are actually fighting for the principles of the Constitution that every member of Congress takes an oath to uphold.

But, as you can imagine, not every Republican is happy that Walter Jones takes his oath of office seriously.

You have been a tremendous help to me in our efforts to restrain the role of government and to follow the Constitution.

Today, I ask you to help my friend Congressman Walter Jones by sending a contribution to his campaign.

It is essential that we return Walter Jones to Congress so he can continue the battle for individual liberty and less government.

Please send your most generous donation today https://www.online-donation.com/jones/

Sincerely,

Ron

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

I'm doing my best, here FFC! Thanks for your encouragement.

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

I'd say wait until Jones wins the primary to give him a cartoon.

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

exactly. now STRIVE to be SMARTER, Isaac.

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Gee, FFC1304, with a guy of your caliber supporting him, who could question Ron Paul's credentials? I betcha Ron Paul could just drop your name as a character reference when confronted by angry accusations and the accusers would become sheepish and ashamed of themselves. We'd all have to step back and say, "Whaaa? You mean the guy who calls people idiots and does that cute "KKK" thing? Oh, say no more, Dr. Paul!"

Re: Question for Ryan:

Not everyone has a cartoon. It takes a while for our staff cartoonist to do them, so we tend to add them infrequently. If you guys really want a Jones cartoon, I can put it in the queue...

Question for Ryan:

Why doesn't Jones, Jr. get a cartoon like everyone else featured in Dome?

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Ron Paul is NOT a racist, but you are a misinformed idiot. STRIVE to be SMARTER than a democrackkk.

Thanks, but...

Thanks for the tip, but try to refrain from speculation in the comments. It can quickly deteriorate...

Walter Jones and the Casino Lobby

All this talk about fundraising, seems the Dome would be interested that Walter Jones didn't show up at a Reagan Dinner in New Bern last night but instead sent a lobbyist to speak for him. Scott Dacey, who I googled to find lobbys for Indian casinos, was there to speak on Walter Jones behalf. Seems our Congressman likes to hang out with lobbyists in casinos, knocking back a few drinks I'm sure. Hey Ryan, wouldn't this be a great story?

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Ron Paul is both crazy and a racist. I'm not sure if I'd accept his endorsement, if I were Jones.

Bring Our Troops Home

If you think the GOP is going to have a fighting chance campaigning on a war that 70% of Americans oppose and was launched under false pretense then go ahead. Republicans came to power by campaigning on fixing LBJ's Vietnam mess and now the GOP is returning the favor 40 years later by opening the door for the Democrats to waltz back into power.

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Paul, Gilchrist, and Jones, gallant anti-war Musketers! Who's surprised that this little cabal would show up. Or who's surprised that there might be a little slick play by Jones figuring that some folks dont read the fine print? Not I, Not informed 3rd District Voters. Walter's a phony, spelled with a capital P it's PHONY! Spelled with Capitolese it's still Phony!

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

Jones needs all the help he can get. The latest Pulse Opinion Research Poll has 43% for Jones with McLaughlin just behind at 41%. I urge true traditional conservatives to not let the War Party neocons drive one of the last good Republicans from Congress by supporting Walter Jones in any way you can.

Re: Ron Paul raising money for Jones

I just commented about this on your prior post, "Jones: Not endorsing Paul either", and posted the email you now providing. I'm glad you posted the email above. Below were my comments...

Not supporting Paul? Below is a letter sent out by Dr. Paul with the tag "Paid for by Walter Jones for Congress" at the footer.

It is a true shame when Mr. Jones feels that he can't publicly support the only Republican running for office. I was thrilled when I received the email, but after his spokes person says he doesn't endorse Paul I have to shake my head. Unfortunately coded comments such as " 'If he was on the ballot, I would vote for him.' " is the best he feels he could do.

Why is it that the only candidate that actually talks on topic and is willing to address the problems and concerns that we are facing as a Nation, and offer real solutions, is labeled as a nut or kook. It's a shame that we live in a sound bite world and the MSM has so much influence and can spin the propaganda machine anyway it chooses...like to the highest bidder. Ron Paul 2008...even if it has to written in!
