Under the Dome

Rick Martinez headed to McCrory administration

Rick Martinez, a Raleigh journalist and commentator, is likely heading to work for Gov. Pat McCrory.

Martinez announced to his staff at Curtis Media that he would be resigning to join the governor's communications office.

When reached for comment Wednesday, Martinez would not confirm the move or his comments to his staff.

“I like to keep what I discuss with the staff to myself,” he said.

He referred questions to Kim Genardo, the governor's communications director. She did not return a reporter's call.

Martinez is news director at WPTF and the NC News Network. He also writes a column for The News and Observer.

Makes Sense

Heck, Martinez has been auditioning for this job for years. He figured if he wrote right wing nutjob columns long enough a Republican would eventually become Governor and come calling.
