A TV ad released in Wilmington on Tuesday says U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre, a Democrat, wasted tax dollars by using them on a 5-star hotel and taking a 30 percent pay increase since he joined Congress in 1997.
The National Republican Congressional Committee released the ad. It didn’t include the cost of the ad buy, making it difficult to tell how big of an impact it will have in the state.
“For nearly 20 years he’s voted against balanced budgets while our debt skyrocketed,” the ad’s narrator says, while black and white photos of McIntyre flash on the screen. “Free spending Mike McIntyre: He’s wasting our money on him.”
McIntire was one of six U.S. House members who took a jet to European cities such as Rome, Moscow and Lisbon, Portugal, for a 10-day vacation, according to a Huffington Post article. The official purpose of the trip was to “examine the European financial crisis,” The Washington Post was told.
