U.S. Rep. David Price will file for re-election this afternoon. The Chapel Hill Democrat plans to visit the N.C. board of elections offices at 3 p.m. to submit the official paperwork. He will then host a grand opening at his new campaign headquarters at 205 Fayetteville St., Suite 221 in Raleigh.
Read his statement below.
Today I filed for re-election in the Fourth Congressional District.”
“For the last four years, it has been my great honor to stand with President Obama to take on some of the greatest challenges of our generation. Together, we have reformed the health insurance system, reined in the excesses of Wall Street, expanded access to higher education through student loan reforms, and most importantly, begun a recovery that has seen the economy create 3.2 million new jobs. These are major accomplishments, but we still have unfinished business. This election is a make-or-break moment for our middle class and those trying to reach it.”
“I am running to continue the fight for what’s right: to put Americans back to work, to build a sustainable fiscal future, and to make the investments necessary for renewed prosperity and expanded opportunity for all – not just the wealthy few. The federal budget must reflect both our nation’s commitment to working people and common sense. We can protect special tax treatment for millionaires and billionaires, or we can invest in renewing our middle class, but we cannot do both – and we shouldn’t. As a matter of fundamental fairness, millionaires and billionaires should not pay a lower effective tax rate than middle class Americans, or students, or seniors. These policies don’t create jobs; they exacerbate income inequality.”
“That’s why expanding access to education has been one of my top priorities in Congress. Public education is the bedrock of our democracy and our economy. It is the means by which people from all walks of life are able to help their children achieve the American dream, and we must continue to invest in it. I’ve authored laws that make interest on college loan payments tax deductible, bolster the capacity of community colleges to offer 21st century workforce training, and help ensure every classroom has a trained, highly-qualified teacher. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I also fought for Recovery Act funding to prevent massive teacher layoffs in North Carolina. We must roll back the penny-wise and pound foolish cuts the Republican House has made to key education programs.”
“The Tea Party Congress has not shared these priorities. In fact, Republicans in Congress don’t appear to be terribly concerned about doing what’s best for the country. If they were, why would they manufacture crises like the debt ceiling fiasco and threatened shutdowns that only further threaten our economic recovery? They’ve put party and political advantage ahead of everything else to the detriment of all. That is not what representative government is all about.”
“My goal is to provide the most effective representation I can for the people of the Fourth District. That means knowing your views and concerns on the issues before Congress and working hard to address them on Capitol Hill. For the last six months, I’ve been traveling the redrawn Fourth to get to know folks in the new areas of the district, like Burlington, Lillington, and Fayetteville, and to reconnect with old friends in parts of Raleigh and Chatham County that are rejoining the district. I am heartened by the warm reception I’ve gotten, and I am determined to use the coming campaign to reach out widely, exchange good ideas, and chart a course that enables North Carolina and our country to realize their full potential.”

Delusional Washington politicians

Should read:
"Together, we socialized the health care system, bailed out Wall Street, told people to go back to school because there are no jobs, and most importantly, promoted the fiction of a recovery that never happened while running TRILLION dollar deficits."
By the way, where did all that money go???
Price is no friend to Catholics nor the working class
February 14, 2012 - 3:01pm — bigfamilyThank you to Bishop Burbridge of the Diocese of Raleigh for courageously taking care of his flock by ending the open invitation to Rep.Price to hold a town hall meeting at Cardinal Gibbons HS. Catholic institutions are just that, CATHOLIC, and they should not host open forums for pro-aborts like Rep. Price. Many parents are sacrificing greatly to be able to send their children to Catholic schools under the assumption that their children will actually be trained in the truth. It seems as though the principal of Gibbons does not have a well-formed conscience or at least a clear understanding of his own faith and as such he should not be leading a Catholic school. This is how we've ended up with the likes of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi standing in the public square proclaiming to be Catholics all the while persecuting the Church and Her Body. The time has come to stop cowering under the guise of tolerance, stop lacking in courage under the guise of charity and stop allowing misguided Catholics, like the principal of Gibbons, to lead the flock astray under the guise of open-mindedness.
As for Rep. Price's ridiculous claims that he and the current administration have accomplished so many great things, nothing could be further from the truth. Five years ago, my husband had a job that earned enough to provide for our family. Five years ago, we could afford our own healthcare. Five years ago, we didn't spend every night praying for another family friend who's lost his/her job. Five years ago, we hardly knew anyone who's home was in foreclosure. Five years ago, we never dreamed of needing to turn to the government to put food on our table. Five years ago, we didn't have to choose between putting gas in our vehicles and buying our child a new pair of $20 shoes when his old ones fell apart. We have never been anywhere near the 1% and for that we are not complaining. My husband works hard and simply wants to earn a decent wage, so that he can provide food and shelter for his own family. Five years ago that was possible, today it is not and we thank Obama and Rep. Price for that "success."
Price was the guest speaker there in August 11
February 14, 2012 - 1:07pm — fiestamomDavid Price was also the featured guest speaker at the Cardinal Gibbons Principal's Leadership Conference in August.
Why did the principal and others feel that a Pro-choice democrat would be a good fit for a high school leadership retreat? Price has a 100% rating from NARAL.
A Courageous Diocese Confronts the Hypocrisy of Price
February 14, 2012 - 10:21am — SereDocThe Superintendent of Schools for the Raleigh Diocese, Mike Fedewa, in an email notification yesterday, announced that a Rep. David Price Town Hall, scheduled to take place at Cardinal Gibbons High School (CGHS) on February 20th, has been cancelled. The email notification stated, "The principal was premature in granting permission to use CGHS for this event. After fully considering the ramifications of hosting a political event like a public forum, it was communicated to Congressman Price’s office that CGHS is not available for this gathering."
It's astounding that in a week when the Obama administration declared war on the 1st Amendment and targeted key teachings of the Catholic Church, that Jason Curtis, Principal at CGHS, offered a Catholic High School to an avowedly pro-abortion and pro-homosexual marriage political candidate. Equally distressing is that Principal Curtis has partnered with Rep. Price previously. Rep. Price was invited as the Guest Speaker at the prestigious CGHS Principal's Leadership Conference last August. Perhaps there were no pro-life, pro-tradtional marriage political or community leaders qualified to instruct the best and brightest at CGHS in leadership.
Given the tumult of the past two weeks, courageous leaders in the Catholic Church and other religious leaders have risen to oppose this historic encroachment on religious liberty. The Diocese of Raleigh is blessed to be led by a such a man of courage and of faith. Rescinding this invitation to a representative who is notorious in his support of government programs which undermine the Judeo-Christian foundation of this nation, Bishop Burbidge and Superintendent Fedewa are signs that much faith does still remain in the Catholic Church.
What is necessary now is an objective examination of conscience at CGHS. The Catholic community needs to understand how the Principal at the Triangle's flagship Catholic High School could be so misguided as to offer not only Catholic facilites, but the Catholic flock, to the wolf in David Price's clothing.
