April 20, 2010 - 4:43pm — hlcunningham- 2010 budget reduces public school funding by 2% while increasing funding for community colleges (+7%). This is a transfer of the funding of public education from the state to local govt property tax. Given the reduced funding level, the state should then reduce the amount of SDPI oversight and meddling.
- 2010 budget reduces justice and public safety by 1.5% mostly in corrections and judicial - is this appropriate given the deteriorating public safety in most communities?
- 2010 budget increases general govt funding by 2.3% with most in the controller's office and revenue - I believe a decent explanation is required.
- 2010 increases Captial Improvements by 120%. While recent budgets have perhaps underfunded such items is this the year for the increase?
