In video, Randall says Feds and BP spilled oil on purpose

Republican Congressional candidate William "Bill" Randall is suggesting that the Obama Administration and BP conspired to intentionally spill oil in the Gulf, resulting in 11 deaths and the worst environmental disaster in the nation's history.

Randall, who has aligned himself with the Tea Party movement, readily admits that he has no evidence that what he says is true. But that is not stopping him from making the claim as he campaigns for in the June 22 GOP runoff to face incumbent Democratic Rep. Brad Miller on the November ballot.

"Now, I'm not necessarily a conspiracy person, but I don't think enough investigation has been done on this," Randall said at a media conference on Tuesday. "Someone needs to be digging into that situation. Personally, and this is purely speculative on my part and not based on any fact, but personally I feel there is a possibility that there was some sort of collusion. I don't know how or why, but in that situation, if you have someone from a company proposing to violate the safety process and the government signing off on it, excuse me, maybe they wanted it to leak.

"But then it got beyond what was anticipated, and we had an explosion and loss of life. And, oh man, now we have panic. Is there a cover up going on? I'm not saying there necessarily is. But I think there's enough facts on the table for people that (they) really need to do some investigative research and find out what went on with that and get a subpoena of records and everything else."

Randall made the statements after a reporter asked him if he supported President Obama's six-month moratorium on new deep water drilling for a safety review in wake of the disaster.

Pressed on what possible motivation the federal government and BP would have to purposely spill oil, Randall said he had no idea but reiterated that the issue needed to be the subject of investigation.

Both Randall and his GOP primary opponent, Bernie Reeves, have been outspoken supporters of oil and gas exploration off the North Carolina coast, where drilling has long been banned.

Randall, a U.S. Navy retiree who moved to North Carolina 19 months ago, led in the results of a four-way primary last month, edging out second-place finisher Reeves by just 135 votes.

Asked for comment, Reeves responded through a campaign spokesman: “Does Bill Randall also think we didn’t land on the moon?”

Congratulations to all those who have participated in the dumbing down of our education system where those who cannot read receive diplomas.  Critical thinking has been replaced by slander, inuendo, rumor, speculation, blind criticism, and baseless accusations, and a half-way intelligent voting public with those who participate in political discussions that treat matters of public policy as if they were playing pickup games of basketball at the local playground.  I have been on both sides of the political fence over the years, but one thing has always driven my opinions: facts.  I'm sick of hearing things like, "I bet", or "I think", or "you just watch and see" coming from those who are supposed to be telling me something of value.  If you are getting your facts from a person who says "I bet", "I think", or "you just watch", shame on you for being so gullible.  Public policy isn't about teams.  It's about solutions that make sense.  If you think your party has all the solutions, you're just plain wrong.

The real conspiracy is all those who have just been waiting for some sort of disaster or other incident to pin on Obama. This is a case of "let's fill in the blank with whatever we can, because no matter what it is, ITS HIS FAULT!" While we are at it, why not expose the moon landing hoax - his fault, Kennedy was killed by Frank Sinatra's people - his fault, the Holocaust never happened - he made it up, 9-11 was an inside job - he should have been able to stop it! Sound crazy? Yes, it does, just as crazy as Randall and half the posts on this page!

BP Was A Inside Job By Alvin Green

Not the feds nor Obama as the Federal Reserve system wants you to believe....Go Alvin

Either or....

Either Obama is totally incompetent -- as proven by his failure to address the environmental disaster -- or he is allowing it to happen so as to not "let a good crisis go to waste."

Either way, he is a disaster for America.

Randall is right, of course...

They need to get Cap & Trade passed. After the backlash of HealthScare, they required a big, juicy environmental disaster to appeal to the less discerning of you sheeple to gain your support. Remember, like Rahm said, "Don't let a perfectly good crisis go to waste." Isn't this tactic straight out of Bill Ayers' fascist 101 playbook? I do think it's gone a wee bit farther than the morons anticipated. BP is playing along nicely...just like the banks...just like Detroit. Think people...think for yourselves before it's too late.

Really out there

Are we actually supposed to take this candidate seriously ? Tom Fetzer is impotent as a leader of the GOP. Reeves isn't any better. Looks like a democrat win on this one. Why even vote...?  These two candidates are incredulously beyond comparison.

BP spill

I am getting so tired of people blaming Obama for the oil spill.Did he go out and blow up that oil well? Can he go out and fix the leakes in the Gulf.I can't beleive this world is full of so many idiots, always blaming Obama(since he became president) for every problem this world have ,had or is going to have.People come to your senses and stop blaming him for everything, while you all hide behind your racist ways.

Randall's angle

I think Randall  is just trying to snag some of Bernie's conspiracy-freak constituents.  That or he can't stand the idea of SC winning the "Stupid State" contest.

Randall's Next Press Release

The earth is flat!  I read about it in the National Enquirer.

Obama is Extraordinarily Talented

Under your view, to pull this off, Obama would be one of the greatest tacticians and administrators of all time and had successfully made the government work as efficiently as it ever has; your unwavering belief in supporting your belief for his extraordinary talents in this regard is commendable; based on your analysis, we probably should have voted for him.

What a dangerous and reckless individual to be running for office; I had not planned to vote, but this certainly makes the rantings of conspiracy theory journalist and wannabe CIA Director Bernie Reaves look more palatable; this guy is certainly "right" as in "right off the deep end"; and this after I remarked yesterday that who would elect Reaves after seeing those terrible photos in his ads in Metro this month; in those photos he looks like the mean neighbor who keeps your kid's frisbee when it lands on his lawn; the caption should read "Hey you kids...!".

Only a T'bgr...

Only a republican like  Bill Randall (and many more I suspect) would infer that the democrats were in concert with B.P. to purposefully design and implement the 'spill.' That crowd is vote hunting by use of lies and scare tactics. Anyone with one eye and half sense can easily see that Randall's assertion(s) are nothing more than  bald faced lies to promote the agenda of the Bag'rs.

Shame on Randall and anyone silly enough to take him and his ilk seriously.

what a moron

and the cia started aids & crack to wipe out my brothers

Wouldn't Be The First Time

It wouldn't be the first time that a government in trouble has moved the spotlight, it's been going on for centuries.

Shameless name Calling Liberals

Very good MDFinnigan.  Just question the Great Leader and you libs start name calling.  That's why we love you so much.  We've got your number in November buddy.

Oil spill comment

For the writers information, no oil company can make any move in the drilling of a new well without the inspection and approval of the MMS agency.  So if they requested that the safety procedures be waived, the Government knew about it and thus approved it.  Otherwise BP could not have proceeded.  Probably nothing to do with the Millions of $$ they contributed to the Democratic Party.

I sometimes just wonder, what in the world is going on with The GOP These days.  Just when I thought I'd heard it all, a mouth is opened, and I get blind sided once again.  If this is what America wants in office, along with Sarah Palin, we'd all better start doing a lot of praying.

Gee, why would BP violate safety protocols if not a conspiracy?

ummm... the company violated their own safety protocols because they WANTED TO MAKE MORE MONEY!! But of course laissez-faire small-government conservatives don't want to believe that companies would choose to disregard worker safety and environmental health in order to make more money, because that would be an argument for government oversight, which these conservatives don't want.

And I'm not aware of an instance in which the government signed off on any of instances in which BP violated its own safety protocols.  Those were internal company decisions that have only come out in the last days/weeks in as a result of investigation.

What a dangerously stupid set of remarks.

Is it Bush and Katrina

His theory makes as much if not more sense than the theory that President Bush was responsible for the disaster of New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina.  Bush would have had no agenda, but Obama does Cap & Tax.  Always a conspiracy theory floating .... careful of name calling ... it can come back and bite you.

Yep, now we know why the domestic terrorist Bill Ayers has been a frequent visitor to the white house. Bill Ayers knows all about blowing things up. Long time buddy to Obie, I am sure they got impatient to get this Cap and Tax bill passed and probably feared that this summer would be the last chance. They blowed BP's rig up!

Sounds kind of far fetched, even to me.  But, we have to give the Liberals some fodder. Otherwise, Nov will be sooo embarrassing to them. Have to give them a little chance to save face, after they elected the White House clown.

Oil spill comment

The News 14 reporter trying to write something sensational took the comment on the potential conspiracy out of context, not unusual for a left leaning organization, and emphasized this aspect of the answer.  It is suspicious that the company would propose techniques that are against long standing safety standards to cut costs and the MMS agency would then sign off on them.  While I don't think there was any planning for the disaster, the actions of both the company and the administration left the door open for this to happen.  Additionally, imposing the Jones Act, to save the unions, and not accepting the help on the Dutch skimmers, and other countries assistance was a total lack of leadership and accentuates the incompetence of the Obama team.  The lack of action to stop the oil from reaching the coast rests solely on the Administrations shoulders.

What the Republican party has become.  When you sell your soul to the devil this is what you get.

Now we know,  just why it is that candidate Randall is a non-factor in the election.

This ancient old country boy is waiting with bated breath for the Neo-Cons and Tea Baggers to explain how Obama holding BP's feet to the fire and escrowing $20-Billion as a starter to the damages fund to be administered by the same professional selected by George "DubYaH"  Bush to handle 9/11 compensation  -- is an absolute threat to the U.S.

Of course, Exxon being allowed to leave the Valdez area after a slip-shod excuse of a cleanup during the administration of the Oil Patch Cronies, aka Bush/Cheney -- is only proof those good ol' Oil Patch boys are better Americans than the guy who peacefully arranged for BP to start paying damages and making up losses from BP's slight mistake.

Actually, I have it on good authority, that it was the White House dog, BO, who caused the BP oil spill -- while digging up a bone he had hidden in Mrs. Obama's garden.

[Can't remember who "outed" Bo. Seems his name was Lush, or Bushel and a Peck or something along those lines.]

At least they are not blaming either of the Obama girls for digging too deeply in their sand box.

News14 picked it up - wow he says it word for word..unbelievable

News14 has the footage.

Unbelievable and to think this guy might run against Brad Miller? Ha. Miller will eat his lunch.

Oil Spill

I think that a conspiracy between the current administration and BP would require a level of intelligence neither party has shown in the past.

Clearly Mr. Randall has some

Clearly Mr. Randall has some serious mental health issues.  This shows why publicly funded mental health care is so vital.  He should get back on his medication if he wants to hold public office.  Even more striking is the fact that there are people who would vote for this guy.

truth is stranger than fiction ...

Not saying that I necessarily believe this hypothesis, but ...

Tony Hayward sold 1.4 million pounds of BP stock , which was 1/3 of his holdings in the company, just one month before the rig exploded.  He avoided losing 30% of the stock's value, which of course has since plummeted.  (see telegraph DOT co DOT uk) .

And think that oil companies are against cap & trade, which Obama was pushing last night in the guise of finding alternative energy sources?  Nope.  BP, along with 2 other oil companies, supported the proposed Kerry/Lieberman energy bill.

BP also helped to found the US Climate Action Partnership, which was created to lobby to pass cap & trade; i.e., to tax carbon emissions etc.  Big, big money for some people.

It is a completely false narrative to think that Obama & the Dems are against the oil companies.  It's a symbiotic relationship - each will stand to make billions on the backs of U.S. taxpayers.  BP uses more Dem lobbyists than R's, and has in its employ the Podesta Group - co-founded by John Podesta, who now heads the Center for American Progress, the infamous lib think tank.

I think it was the Barrelman artist and that Bigfoot from Catawba County.  I mean, have you seen THEM around here since April?

Pretzelman is an ignorant ass and so is Randall

Yes, BP and the administration also have a way to end the spill when they want to - Oh Brother, what a bizarre comment.

"Stupid is as Stupid does".

In case people want to see it for themselves:

Maybe he has a point..

I would put nothing past this regime.  Thank you Mr. Randall for stating what many have been thinking.  Looks like a good opportunity to destroy the oil industry and build a platform for this Cap and Trade nonsense.
