Americans for Prosperity is targeting U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan over the stimulus bill.
The limited-government advocacy group is airing an ad on AM and FM talk radio stations in Wilmington, Greensboro and Raleigh arguing that the stimulus package in the Senate is full of "the same old wasteful spending."
"Six hundred million dollars to buy new cars for federal bureaucrats. Fifty million to fund art — that's right art," the narrator says. "Three hundred thirty five million for studying sexually transmitted diseases. One hundred fifty million for honeybee insurance."
The ad cites a Web site, NoStimulus.com, that Americans for Prosperity set up to oppose the bill. It urges listeners to go to the site to tell Hagan to vote against it.
Spokesman Dallas Woodhouse said the Web site has attracted 44,000 signatures so far, including several thousand in North Carolina.

The Washington politicians are up to their old games again.
Using the economic crisis to pass a $1 trillion spending bill and then calling it stimulus. But it's the same old wasteful spending for pet projects we've seen before.
Six hundred million dollars to buy new cars for federal bureaucrats. Fifty million to fund art — that's right art. Three hundred thirty five million for studying sexually transmitted diseases. One hundred fifty million for honeybee insurance.
The waste goes on and on.
Go to NoStimulus.com and take action. Tell Senator Hagan to vote no.
NoStimulus.com has all the facts. At NoStimulus.com, you can tell Senator Hagan to vote no on massive government spending. That's NoStimulus.com.

February 6, 2009 - 10:15am — greenswampThe reason Democrats got in two years ago was because the country was already beginning to show symptoms of the downturn and disarray regarding the Iraq War. It is saddening to hear the political rhetoric being tossed around when this country is in such sad shape. This is not State and Carolina folks. It should not be your team, my team loyalty to the end. Let's just try to support good leadership and hard working legislators.
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 6, 2009 - 10:01am — Gosh (not verified)OR you could realize that's exactly what I said.
The stimulus bill is ALREADY working for North Carolina.
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 9:28pm — scharrisonPaul, I mentioned Pope and Koch because they are both deeply associated with the (national) Americans For Prosperity organization. A few big blades of grass in an otherwise desolate "grassroots" movement, if you get my drift.
I have my own problems with George Soros, but they have nothing to do with MoveOn.org. He's a big "global" investor, meaning he's got his hands in a whole lot of pies, and some of them are in the former Soviet Bloc. That old, "Democracy is good for business", or is it the other way around? Whatever, it's a dangerous game, and nailing an 18% return on an investment might end up dragging us into a war we thought was no longer possible.

Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 7:33pm — KPeddiSorry tangoz, you and the Republicans own this one.
Tough for the Dems to do much in TWO YEARS, especially when Republicans had SIX YEARS and are so adept at tying up government when they're not in the majority(as we're seeing RIGHT NOW!)...
Well buddy, now we've got the Executive branch and a larger majority in Congress. If the Democrats can GROW A SPINE, then maybe we can get back to undoing all of the damage that the Bush Administration has inflicted upon this country!
Didn't really think you'd go away. That's fine. We're more than ready to fight...
Taxpayer's will not be intimidated by socialists
February 5, 2009 - 6:51pm — tangozKpeddi, no we will not go away. The Democrats have controlled Congress for the last two plus years and share in the blame of this recession.
In this state the Democrats have controlled or have had a share in controlling this state's government since the Civil War (1861-1865). How come you are not attacking the Democrats with such virul? The Democrats are alone responsible for our $3 billion shortfall due to out of control spending and unrealistic revenue projections. Bring atleast one fact to the argument before trying your intimidation and hate on the taxpayers.
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 6:45pm — tangozScharrison did you know that fascism allows you to own a business but the government tells you how to run it. I notice that you did not mention George Soros in your article above. So according to your logic the items mention in the article would also benefit a hate mongerer like Soros, Yes?
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 5:37pm — scharrisonThis is not about saving taxpayers money, it's about trying to limit the Public's (Federal & State government) involvement in business, so folks like Art Pope and Charles Koch can continue to operate how they please.
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 4:56pm — KPeddi"The same old wasteful spending."?
Where have these clowns been the past eight years?
Yep, best to sit on our hands and let those tax breaks work...y'know, just like they have been!
Got a problem putting artists to work? Or are they not as worthy as people with "real jobs"?
The examples cited by Woodhouse are but a tiny sliver in this package. And they know it.
Go away, Woodhouse. You had your chance.
Re: Radio ad targets Hagan on stimulus
February 5, 2009 - 4:55pm — tecoloteAh, yes. "Americans for Prosperity (for the select few)." Did they oppose the "massive spending" over the past eight years that went to private "contractors" in Iraq? Just wondered.

February 5, 2009 - 4:50pm — cthayes75Or you could think of all those media buyers, voice over announcers, website designers and radio station employees that have jobs because groups like Americans for Prosperity purchase advertising.
Stimulus bill already working for North Carolina
February 5, 2009 - 4:43pm — Gosh (not verified)Just think of all those media buyers, voice over announcers, website designers and radio stations in Wilmington, Greensboro and Raleigh selling advertising to the paid staff at Americans for Prosperity that depend on something to oppose for their lucrative contributions to society.
