Hate crime hoax?

Under the Dome Quotes

It's really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills.

— U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, arguing that the murder of Matthew Shepard was not a hate crime but simply a robbery, during a floor speech on April 29, 2009.

Re: Hate crime hoax?

Generally, the Klan and Westboro are not liable to be prosecuted, because the organization generally doesn't commit a crime. Therefore there is no "ideological conspiracy" to prosecute.

Now, the individual members may commit crimes, and they may be charged with hate crimes, but its not like the Sheriffs are tackling large, multi-state organizations in hate crimes circumstances.

Generally, the only way the Klan has ever been brought down is under RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) charges for tax fraud, money laundering or other financial crimes, as well as for endangering minors and violating various other social prohibitions. Those are mostly federal charges anyways.

Which brings me to my main point. The Feds don't come in on state hate crime charges. Period. That's a state charge, and state prosecutors and investigators work it. They Feds only come in when a limited and rare number of circumstances are met.

Re: Hate crime hoax?

Foxx speaketh the truth.

BitterEx or FFC or whoever you are now, the "special treatment" for those victims of ideolical crime is the same for all terrorists. The Feds come in. That's it.

Not every po-dunk Sheriff in America is equipped to prosecute an ideological conspiracy like the Klan, Eric Rudolph or the Westboro Baptist Church without some help.

Re: Hate crime hoax?

The real HOAX is that 'hate crimes legislation' gives special treatment to certain groups which is UNconstitutional. Foxx speaketh the truth.

Virginia Foxx is a hoax of a human being

Virginia Foxx is a hoax of a human being, but like Repugnant-CANTs in general she is a bigoted homophobe and engages in revisionist misinformation to suit a Repug gay hating agenda. When is America going to wake up to the shameful depravity of Repugs - Repugs are not moral just because they proclaim themselves to be good Christians and wrap themselves in the flag. At best, Repugs like Foxx are ignorant, if not hateful, or perhaps just incredibly stupid.

Re: Hate crime hoax?

Since some of the more willfully ignorant revisionists of this travesty have now shown up here repeating their "Shepard was trying to rob them" nonsense, a short history of reality is warranted.

Shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998, 21-year-old Shepard met McKinney and Henderson in a bar. McKinney and Henderson offered Shepard a ride in their car. Subsequently, Shepard was robbed, pistol whipped, tortured, tied to a fence in a remote, rural area, and left to die. McKinney and Henderson also found out his address and intended to rob his home. Still tied to the fence, Shepard was discovered eighteen hours later by Aaron Kreifels, who at first thought that Shepard was a scarecrow. At the time of discovery, Shepard was still alive, but in a coma.
