Under the Dome Quotes
If there is no problem, I see no reason for government to participate in creating a problem, and to potentially damage the boat building industry is wrong.
Senate Democratic leader
Marc Basnight arguing in favor of overriding Gov.
Mike Easley's veto of a
bill to relax width requirements for towing boats on state highways.

Excerpt from Fayetteville Observer editorial.
Wide load: Legislators should uphold veto of dangerous boat-hauling bill.
While there are plenty of demographic groups that the General Assembly shows no interest in protecting, we’re thankful that lawmakers place a top priority on protecting people who own big boats.
Because of that concern, our elected representatives are rushing to Raleigh today to make sure people who want to trailer those boats on public roads can do so, any time of the day or night, even if the boat is wider than the road’s lanes, and even if they’ve knocked back a couple beers before getting on the road.
That’s dedication.
