* A wide-ranging federal investigation of former Gov. Mike Easley appears to be venturing into renovations of his Southport house and a marina lease that resulted in an ethics complaint against him.

* Greensboro News & Record blogger Mark Binker notes that the House Health Committee agenda for today included bills on colon hydrotherapy, medical marijuana and higher beer taxes.

* Binker also reports that Rep. John Blust, a Greensboro Republican, is engaged.

* Roll Call reports that Sen. Richard Burr, who has said it is too early to poll the 2010 Senate race, releases some internal polling data on the race.

One week before Burr releases internal poll

"I think it's ridiculous to go through hypothetical head-to-heads," Burr said.

"The next election is not even something I'm thinking about. Nor should I, until I know who I'm running against," he said.

Burr said he hasn't run any of his own polls yet.

"Why should I poll?" he asked.

Roll Call is mistaken. This poll did not come from The Richard Burr Committee. It came from Carolina Strategy Group.

Sigh.

As Roll Call says, Burr released the poll. That means Burr paid for it, not that he conducted it.

Carolina Strategy Groups' founder Shumaker happens to be Burr's top campaign adviser anyway.

As for all of Burr's previous "too early to poll" bluster, that's naive. Of course the very first time he was finally ahead in an internal, they released it to press. That's GOP SOP.

Deny public opinion exists until you can buy a poll you like.
