Already, elected officials in Salisbury and Wilson are trying their hands at providing cable and Internet and thinking they can do better than private businesses working specifically in the industry.

It helps, of course, that if they're wrong, they aren't bearing the huge financial risk — they've put the risks all on the taxpayers, of course.
