Issues

Name one way you would change government.

The largest issue the General Assembly will face in 2009 is a looming budget deficit projected to be at least $2.5 billion.  State government must tighten its belt, focus on our highest priorities and eliminate unnecessary spending, such as, the recently stopped purchase of a $9 million jet for the Commerce Department.  The State needs the fiscal discipline to budget within its means.  This is not the time to raise taxes and add to the burden of working people, seniors and families who are hurting. Reform is overdue. We must reform the management of the Department of Transportation taking the politics out of road building decisions and changing the funding formula to address congestion and maintenance needs in areas like the Triangle. Our mental health system is failing costing lives and wasting millions of tax dollars, we must act now to insure patient safety and quality treatment. Addressing these critical areas and working to save jobs and keep our economy growing will be my top priorities in 2009.

What is the most pressing problem affecting the function of district court?
