How will you measure success in your first year in office?

Success would be measured by making the state Department of Public Instruction the most responsive and responsible agency in state government.

I have consistently delivered Meals on Wheels to many elderly people. It’s been an inspiring experience to interact with these older people. I’ve also volunteered with Special Olympics over the years



What is the biggest challenge facing North Carolina? Your county? Your district?

What is the biggest challenge facing the superintendent's office?

Creating the sense of service that’s lacking in the superintendent’s office. As I’ve traveled across the state and talked with teachers and parents, they’ve told me they don’t feel the Department of Public Instruction is responsive to their needs.
