Jack Sawyer is a Burlington attorney who was the Republican nominee for Secretary of State in 2008. It was his first run for office.

Early Life and Education
Sawyer is a Kinston native. His mother taught elementary school and his father was a sales representative with Proctor & Gamble.
He attended Kinston High School.
He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1994 with a degree in political science.
He also earned a JD from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Va., in 1998.
Sawyer is a real estate attorney and has owned two law firms in Burlington. He now serves as a director of Alliance Mutual Insurance Company in Greensboro.
As a student at UNC-CH, Sawyer interned in the Washington, DC, office of Sen. Jesse Helms, R-NC.
He worked for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Cobey's campaign in 2004 and was selected as an alternate delegate to that year's Republican National Convention.
Sawyer was the Republican nominee for Secretary of State in 2008. He made much during the campaign of an incident in which social security numbers were posted on the Secretary of State's Web site. Sawyer called the incident a breech of security.
Marshall countered that the numbers were contained in documents posted by banks and that her office corrected the problem quickly and cheaply.
