Synopsis

Howard Staley is aiming high in his first try. The Moncure podiatrist has never run for office before, but he filed in 2008 for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Elizabeth Dole. A native of New Jersey, he has lived in North Carolina since 1981.

Early Life and Education

Howard Anthony Staley was born on March 23, 1955, in Camden, N.J. He was born to Milton and Marie Staley.

Milton was a pipe fitter. Marie was a homekeeper.

Staley attended Moorestown High School in Moorestown, N.J. He graduated in 1973.

Following graduation he attended Rutgers University, where he graduated in 1977 with a degree in chemistry.

Staley then went to Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, now known as the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He graduated in 1981 with a doctor of podiatric medicine.

Professional Career

After graduation Staley moved to Moncure, N.C., and began his own practice, Howard A. Staley, DPM, where he currently works.

Political Career

In 2008, he filed in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Elizabeth Dole

He faces state Sen. Kay Hagan, Chapel Hill investment banker Jim Neal, Lexington trucker Duskin Lassiter and Lumberton attorney Marcus Williams
