Eddie Goodall is a state senator from Mecklenburg County.
Early Life and Education
Will Edward Goodall was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Monroe, N.C., to Bill and Lee Goodall. His father was in the meat business, worked as a grocer and sold mobile homes; his mother was a homemaker.
He graduated from Monroe High School in 1965.
In 1965 and 1966, he went to UNC-Chapel Hill. He then transferred to play basketball, earning a bachelor of science in accounting from UNC-Charlotte in 1969.
Professional Career
While in college, he began working for Ernst & Ernst, a Charlotte accounting firm, working through 1971. He then worked for a CPA named Bill Carroll.
In 1973, he opened his own accounting firm. He sold the business in 1988 and went to work for Atlas Marketing Co. as vice president of administration.
In 1993, he started Goodall Consulting, a CPA firm. He sold it in 2006.
He currently works as business developer for Toler, Bly & Associates CPA.
Political Career
Goodall ran for the legislature three times before winning a race.
In 1996, he ran for the N.C. House of Representatives, losing by a few hundred votes.
In 2000, he ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate, and in 2002 he ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for state Senate.
In 2004, he won a Senate seat representing Mecklenburg and Union counties.
In office, he has pushed for more charter schools, reform of the state tax system and limits on regulation.
In 2009, he jokingly offered to trade his Senate seat on eBay for tickets to the Duke-Carolina basketball game.
