Early Life and Education
Dennis Nielsen was born in Shelby, Iowa.
He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1970.
Military Service
He retired from the Air National Guard in 2002.
Political Career
He ran unsuccessfully for state Senate in 2004.
In 2006, he ran unsuccessfully in the primary for state House of Representatives.
In 2008, he ran in the Democratic primary for governor without a paid campaign staff or much money.
He supports vouchers for private school, eliminating property taxes for people over 65 with incomes less than $40,000 a year, and an end to forced annexation by cities and towns.
He faces Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and state Treasurer Richard Moore in the primary.
