Dee A. Freeman is a native of Lenoir.
He received a bachelor's degree from N.C. State University.
He received a master's of public administration from Appalachian State University.
He also received a municipal administration certificate from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government.
Professional Career
Freeman served 27 years as a town manager, including stints in Shelby and Brevard.
He served as town manager of Shelby from 1995 to 2000.
He moved to the Triangle in 2000 when he was getting ready to marry Emily Reynolds, longtime legislative assistant to House Speaker Joe Hackney.
From 2000 to 2008, he served as executive director of the Triangle J Council of Governments.
