Issues

How will you measure success in your first year in office?

If I have helped the court reach common sense, reasonable decisions based solely upon the facts and the law, with courage and integrity.

Tell us about something you did for someone else.

I have done some prison ministry and I often counsel former convicted felons who come before me in matters where they have attempted to hide their past for employment purposes to acknowledge and take responsibility for their mistakes and commit to living their present and future lives according to a different set of rules, one based on honesty and accountability. In line with this I try to give them guidance on possible career options where their past will be of less concern to employers, such as work in the trades. I do this because I understand that in God’s eyes we are all “damaged goods”, in need of grace, forgiveness and redemption.

What is the biggest challenge facing North Carolina? Your county? Your district?

To give the necessary time, attention and careful consideration to the facts and the law in each case when the Court has a very large number of cases to deal with in a comparatively short period of time.
