How will you measure success in your first year in office?
I’ll measure success if I’m able to make a difference in the lives of people with mental illness. If I can go in and provide my experience and insight into the issue right now, the state mental health reform process, and help turn around the failures of the mental health system.
Tell us about something you did for someone else.
The most significant thing I’ve done for someone else is to found a nonprofit organization for people with mental illness.
What is the biggest challenge facing North Carolina? Your county? Your district?
Obviously, North Carolina has problems with the economy right now and decent jobs that pay a living wage. We have a lot of people living day to day without any savings. One of the biggest issues is making sure we get the right kind of jobs with the right kind of training.
