Pro-life group: Eliminate state fund

A pro-life group says the State Abortion Fund should be eliminated.

Barbara Holt, executive director of N.C. Right to Life, said that she wholeheartedly agrees with a budget official who recommended Gov. Beverly Perdue cut the state's fund to help poor women pay for abortions.

Though the fund has gone unused since 1995, Holt said it was an important symbol.

"Even one abortion is one too many," she said.

Holt noted that the state budget includes funding for abortion in at least two other places: the state employee health plan and a children's health insurance plan. She said those programs should be cut as well so that the state spends no money on abortions.

"We support taking any payments for abortion out of the budget," she said.

Re: Pro-life group: Eliminate state fund

Personal responsibility is a right and should be practiced. Why are we paying for someone that is not in a financial situation to raise a kid and will resort to the government to pay for this kid. This generation coming up is a generation of "entitlements" and it shows. I am tired of paying for the irresponsibility of Americans.

Re: CitizenOpinionated requests only "rich" and fit women in bed

...while nude.

Perhaps "poor" and ladies that are unfit (in a bad situations) should stay out of the bed with a nude man.

I can tell you've been around and know things CitizenNeverLeftTheHouse. I'm quite sure you're right and these silly ladies wanting rights should take your lead and not have sex.

Ever.

Re: Pro-life group: Eliminate state fund

That's...a little confusing there, Citizen. You're saying that a poor woman having a child is irresponsible, but a poor woman having an abortion is also irresponsible? I'm not sure what else that leaves, if a poor woman finds herself pregnant...

"Even one abortion is one too many," she said.

I trust she also supports teaching real sex education. The single most effective way to reduce the number of abortions is to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. We have an opportunity now to support legislation that would make that happen.

The Healthy Youth Act sets up a two-track system for teaching sexuality
education in North Carolina - one for abstinence until marriage and
another for abstinence-based comprehensive sexuality education. Every
school system would be required to offer both programs in grades 7-9 and
parents would select the program in which they wish their child to enroll.

Re: Pro-life group: Eliminate state fund

This issue is simple. It helps "poor" women pay for abortion. If you are "poor" struggling to take care of yourself...then why in God's green Earth are you considering having a child. You are merely doing a disservice to that child. Take some personal responsibility. This issue has nothing to do the actual abortion issue...it is a funding issue and NO we should be in the business of funding people's inability to maintain a sense of personal responsibility and accountability. I understand that this is a naive concept in today's day and age, but still...we should get back to some personal accountability in America.
