Poll: Perdue trip unpopular

More than 70 percent of state residents disapprove of Gov. Beverly Perdue's trip to China and Japan, according to a poll by the conservative Civitas Institute.

Perdue has been on an economic development trip. Civitas asked 600 registered voters in the state whether they approve or disapprove of spending $80,0000 on the trip.

The poll found that 72 percent disapproved, 21 percent approved and 7.5 percent were unsure.

It's a fair guess that the results might have been different had the question not included the $80,000 figure.

The poll, which was conducted Oct. 20-21, had a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

It's just up to the journalists who report on it to provide some

Very funny, Capt.

Educating the populace?

If the question is, LITERALLY, do you approve of Perdue spending $80,000 on a trip to China...I don't think it's difficult to assume most would view it negatively. But goodness forbid an educated question was used, explaining the purpose of the China trip and the potential economic opportunities for our state (in actual dollar amounts) was used. I'm sure some folks would still signal disapproval, either b/c they have some anti-China sentiment in in general or anti-Perdue sentiment in particular, but then the poll number might actually mean something.

But, hey, it's Civitas' dime, it can do whatever it wants. It's just up to the journalists who report on it to provide some perspective.
