Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Barely half of North Carolina voters believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States, according to a poll released today.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 749 North Carolina voters from Aug. 4-10, and found that 54 percent believe that Obama was born in the United States. 26 percent of those surveyed said they do not believe Obama was born in the U.S., and 20 percent said they were not sure.

The survey found that only 24 percent of Republican voters in North Carolina believe Obama was born in the U.S.

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

Conservative critics of Obama contend he is not a natural born U.S. citizen and, therefore, not eligible to be president.

But the director of the health department in Hawaii, where Obama was born, has confirmed that Obama was born in Honolulu in 1961, as indicated by his birth certificate.

Public Policy Polling also asked those surveyed whether they consider Hawaii to be part of the U.S. - 5 percent said no, and 3 percent said they were not sure.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Among other points I could make about this report is the lunacy that 54 percent of ALL N.C. voters believe this nonsense. The Washington Post and CBS at least reported this poll was done by robocall, not even reliable in an election year when polling interest is higher. Since this week's hit-and-run smear job on N.C. (a blue state last year) by Public Policy Polling, few of those who have reported have done so.

This being a non-election year, you have to think a minute about who answers the phone when a pollster calls. It's not 46 percent of all N.C. voters. It's those who 1) don't screen calls, 2) had so little to do they stayed on the line when a robot called at a time most people consider inconvenient, 3) didn't even hang up when said robot went on at length with such intros as "Next, I'm going to ask you about seven issues."

With all the liberal commentators who jumped at the chance to ridicule a Southern Obama state, this fratricide is a more dangerous waste of a critical August is a worse diversion than the craziest of the birther town halls.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

For the folks stating that being a Democrat means I live off government programs, first, you're highly ignorant. I'm college educated and paying my way through society, and secondly EVERYONE in America lives off the government. Teachers, Police, Firefighters, many utilities workers, city planners, councilmen, mayors, bureaucrats are all government workers. If you attended public school, you lived off the government. The food you eat is inspected by the government. The gov makes sure your electricity and water are running and safe. The military is a government job, which is overseas sacrificing so ignorant beatnicks can make uneducated posts like, "Democrat means lives off government programs." My biggest issue is if Republicans and conservatives hate the government so much and think it's bad, why do they want to run it so bad and hold office? I think folks would be better off to let Republicans sit on the sidelines and say no because Bush and Cheney did a good enough job proving that Republicans should not be running government.

Richard Burr says Obama from here, Birther GOP is stupid

Don't believe me? Call him yourself.

Asheville: 828-350-2437;
Rocky Mount: 252-977-9522;
Winston-Salem: 336-631-5125;
Gastonia: 704-833-0854;
Wilmington: 910-251-1058;
Washington DC: 202-224-3154

Isn't that like admitting everyone that voted for him is stupid too?

How can Burr effectively represent so many dumb North Carolinians when he thinks their concerns are bucknuts? Maybe he needs a primary? Huh?

Re: Poll: Many doubt they lost election

We should really just put this to a vote and see who most Americans want to be President. That would solve it. I have last November free. That work for you guys?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

I'm sorry... YOU live off of government programs. Read: The Color of Wealth, you will find out who REALLY has benefitted from government largess.

ROFLMAO!

Burns and Gigglebox...STRIVE to be SMARTER than the EVIL controlling ORIGINAL party of SLAVERY WANTS you to be!

The Pakistan thing is also a lie

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/passport.asp

In 1981, any American could go to Pakistan and in fact many did.

Obama went with a college friend. He went on his American passport. There was nothing wrong with visiting Pakistan.

Believe it or not, some American citizens actually visit places outside the US other than Ocho Rios and Cozumel. It does happen, and if it happened more, we'd be a lot better off.

Newspaper comment boards are proof of the decline of our civilization.

BitterExDemocrat is a racist whose opinions on this site have been proven to be based on ignorance and pure idiocy. Proven. End of debate.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

No wonder the nation is so scornful of southerners. The more religious and less educated, the nuttier they are. Sort of like the Taliban, but with sweet tea instead of poppies.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

"as a Democrat"= code for I live off of government programs

Poll: Most North Carolinians are sane

54 percent believe that Obama was born in the United States, yet only 24 percent of Republican voters in North Carolina believe Obama was born in the U.S.

Thank God Republicans don't matter.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Anyone that believes Obama isn't a US citizen should also believe that Israel attacked the US on 9/11 and framed the Arabs or that a missile hit the Pentagon instead of a plane. That astronauts never landed on the moon. That aliens landed in Roswell in 1947 and the bodies smuggled to an Air Force Base in Ohio. That FDR wanted Pearl harbor to be attacked. The world's going to end in 2012 etc And every other ridiculous conspiracy theory ever concocted. I never knew that Republicans could be such sheep, I mean wow. John McCain wasn't even born in the U.S. but in the Panama Canal Zone but due to a technicality with military bases and parents is a US citizen, Obama has an American mother and was born in Hawaii a U.S. state which automatically makes him a US citizen end of story. As a Democrat I hope Republicans keep it up because they're only proving to Americans how crazy they really are. It's blatant RACISM and XENOPHOBIA on the part of Republicans, if he were white and from Hawaii it wouldn't be an issue. The talk about African and Kenya is code for "black man" and designed to incite racial fear amongst white bigot conservatives. It's like at the town halls shouting "we want our country back", they're saying we want our President to be white again because a black man in charge scares them.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

"no one can ever figure which 26% is "crazy""

That's because crazy people don't realize they're crazy. They think they're the only ones who can see the truth. But don't worry, everyone else can tell.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

McCain was born to two U.S. citizens--that makes him a U.S. citizen.

On the other hand, Obama was born to ONE U.S. citizen and one African--UNLESS he was born on U.S. soil, HE cannot be a U.S. citizen by birth.

Magical thinking does not change one's citizenship.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

....I think it's pretty well established that 26 percent of the population is crazy." .....
**************

a big 10-4 on that good buddy ..... BUT, just as in advertising where 50% of it is wasted .... no one can ever figure which 26% is "crazy".

I place the crazy liklihood % at around 62-62% depending upon the phase of the moon and whether Congress is in session or not.

Re: kirtl doesn't doubt Obama born in U.S.

I don't support any democrat or republican. I require more than a good speech before supporting an elected official. You might want to be more skeptical and require more from your side. You should expect more from those that claim to be public servants.

kirtl doesn't doubt Obama born in U.S.

Oh! So you support our President kirtl?

I admit I missed that part too.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Hey CharlesEB, what amazes me is that you or any other poster could have stopped this thread in its tracks by providing the factcheck post early on. Better yet any Obama supporter could have done so.You have me painted as some conspiracy theorist first instead of doing what I have asked all along, simply provide proof. See how easy it is to jump to conclusions about people? Perhaps you can go back and find where I said he was not an american citizen. Don't bother, you won't find it.

You complain fiercely about the stupidity of birthers and how embarrassed you are to be associated with them. You just proved you're just as bad as they are.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

GMAFB (That's Give Me A F-ing Break to all you over 30).

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

In addition to the suspicions concerning his birth, I read on one of my favorite blogs that Obama has been conspiring with muslim terrorists to manufacture chemtrails to subdue the American population and make it easier for a communist-sharia law takeover. My cursory investigations on the internet showed absolutely NO EVIDENCE of this. So I ask you this, why is Obama covering this up? Veeery suspicious....

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

actually according to the US v Wong Kim Ark did establish that anyone born in the US is a citizen automatically. The question as to where anyone born outside the jurisidiction of the United States is still yet to be detrimined by the US. So John McCain was not born on US soil and depending on the Status of Force Agreement between the US and Panama if he is a natural born citizen.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Fuzzy math: So, 26% of people don't think Obama was born in the U.S. Let's deduct the margin of error, because one quarter of the population can't be that unbelievably stupid (please God), and bring that number down to 22%. Of that number, 8% of them also don't believe or are not sure that Hawaii is part of the U.S., which means they are functioning without a brain. So my tally brings us to 14% of the brain-wielding population who don't think Obama was born in the U.S. I am willing to concede that approximately 15% of the population, certainly within this state but in the South in particular, are bigoted Hannity/Limbaugh-listening twits who cannot form a coherent, objective thought about anything pertaining to politics. So, yes, I'm afraid I can see that the figure (adjusted by my math) might be correct.

And since it would seem that some of the sad, sparrow-witted freaks that make up the 15% are also posting here, please, get help. And if all else fails, trust in Sarah Palin, and try to enjoy the first of President Obama's two terms.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

* Guh* Why don't you call the White House and ASK what the President was doing in Pakistan? Do you happen to KNOW anyone from Pakistan? Do you know people from that country are living in your midst? So you better quick call ICE so they can all be investigated for having come from Pakistan and happening to be here. HUUUGE national security threat. Jeesh is right.
Frankly it sounds like a fabricated reason NOT to trust our President. Would you PLEASE read a book already? Eat some fruit or put some fiber in your diet, or take a belly dancing class. you are WAAAAY too uptight... then again on the other hand.... I know where you live....

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

BitterExDemocrat makes an excellent point as usual.

Why isn't his party running the country is all I ask?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

I think it's pretty well established that 26 percent of the population is crazy.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Forget the birth certificate, just explain what passport was used in 1982 when he went to Pakistan. In 1981 Pakistan was on the US no travel list so you would not have been able to use a US passport. That means he used a British passport(Kenya) or a Indonesian passport. Either of these would have meant he relinquished his US citizenship which would make him ineligible to be President today. I would love to see his school records or medical records because both of those would answer that question and another improtant one Religion.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

not only that BUT...

Kenyan granny proclaimed she was present at Obamas Kenyan birf...

Kenya has put a monument to honor Obama's Kenyan birf...

Did you know that the death of his white grandmother in Hawaii is under suspicion? He claimed she died of cancer. She had just had a hip replacement. Do people with cancer have a hip replacement? No... why did she die suddenly just as the election occurred? Did she know things
detrimental?

WHY are ALL of the Obama college records, etc SEALED?

So many SECRETS of the messiah...

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

I don't even know why this is news or the slightest bit surprising since the Republican Party in North Carolina has such a large contingent of rednecks, Jesus freaks and morons.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Hey kirti and fellow North Carolinian's who believe President Obama is not an American citizen, please stop embarrassing the rest of us.

Fact Check.org, as well as others have clarified this.

Since you will not follow the link in the article,
here it is again:

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

We sane members from North Carolina apologize to the rest of the country,
sincerely!

Oh yes, there are not, nor have there ever been "Obama death panels" either.
Jeesh...

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

See the birthers are picking the wrong battles in my humble opinion and since MIA asked if the factoids are relevant to National Security, then I will pose a few questions to MIA.

Please explain what Obama did during the summer that he spent "vacationing" in Pakistan?

http://pakistaniat.com/2008/09/01/barak-obama-pakistan/

That does have national security implications - and I think the fact that bothers the Birthers are the inability to know the definate truths concerning so many aspects of President Obama childhood, schooling, higher education, known associates, etc...true intentions for our great country!

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Apparently he hasn't shown a birth certificate. If he has a real one, all he has to do is show it and this goes away.

And, I think your reply is a bit over the top. I simply stated his way out and am puzzled as to why he simply won't provide definitive proof, like the rest of us could easily do. I can get mine right now and also that of my wife and kids, complete with state seal. Why can't Obama?

The controversy is made by Obama, not his critics on this one.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Oh really? Cremated? Is that a factoid relevant to national security, healthcare reform or immigration? Or the recession? Or are you just tooling around for Obamatrivia in the endless quest to make something of him that only exists in the minds of people who don't have enough of a life?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Exactly interested860...
And I add, Jesse Helms is surely smiling, up from his grave.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

That ought to be interesting.

His maternal grandparents were cremated. :)

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE THE STUPIDITY OF THE COMMON MAN!!

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Never under estimate the ignorance of some people.
They will believe anything if they hear it enough.
These same people think that Iraq was involved in 911, wrestling is real and Jesus hated poor people! oh yeah, Sarah Palin is brilliant.
God Bless the mentally challenged among us.
BTW, how much did Jesus charge for healing the sick??????

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Just dig up his grandparents and ask them.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

WHY does it matter so much to you? Do you mean never in your life has there been a mistake on a document of yours? WHY don't you just call the White House and ask? Sorry to be rude, but you need a dope slap. Where did you get this perfectly irrelevant trivia? Are YOU a conspiracy theorist? or just a conspirator? What's YOUR name and where do YOU live?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Why does Obama himself list two different hospitals as his place of birth? Why does Obama's birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper provide an address for his family that they didn't live at?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Tragic.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

What would YOU have to hide if you were faced with incredible(and unwarranted) public scrutiny? Do you really believe his being the president should make him instantaneously subject to our examination of every single corner of his life? Does the job you do require that of you? And WHY is that important to the running of the nation?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

The true question is why has Obama spent over a million dollars to hide his real birth certificate? Not the 'Certificate of Live Birth' (which you can't use to apply for a passport, and therefore doesn't PROVE citizenship.) I actually believe Obama was born in Hawaii. However, I also want to know what he is hiding on his birth certificate.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

*Gulp* YIKES. What is it we really want this country to be? What is the purpose of the unmitigated stupidity of Lou Dobbs' comments? Sorry white people. We have been here as long as you have, and you would like to still hold onto pointless arguments about who is American?

WTF?????????

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

He has taken him rightful place! In a generation or two, the white American will be a distant memory! Dark covers light! We are a Nation of colors! Few will want to be just white! That's what has these folks so concerned! It has nothing to do with a "birth certificate"! I only wish I could be here to see and live in the new United States of America of colors! A country where people are respected for what's inside! We'll all have skin of Colors!

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

cbaycock

Wrong. The Constitution does not define "natural born."

Nobody knows what it meant or means outside of statutory interpretations, wghich have varied over the years.

McCain certainly should be eligible to serve as President. For that matter, so should Gov. Schwarzenegger and Gov. Granholm, despite being immigrants.

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

Kirtl

go away.

He already has provided a Birth Certificate. Hawaii already has.

What do you want him to do, send the original on a tour of shopping centers so you might get a glimpse of it on your way in to buy your tin foil for your hat?

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

John McCain is white. Both is parents are white. By default that makes him white, it didn't matter where he was born, he is American! President Obama's parents are white and black. So by default he is black in America. By default he must be African, even if his mother is white, she gave birth not his father. She gave birth on USA soil! Like John McCains mother! You can't reason with fools! These folks actually believe this stupid lie! Still in this country today a great deal of Black Americans born and raised in this country can't get a CEO job in most business! SO, IT'S ASTONISHING TO ME HOW A STORY LIKE THIS CAN EVEN MAKE THE NEWS MEDIA! If his "birth certificate" weren't perfect! Jesus Christ couldn't have gotten him into the job of President of The United States! In spit of the fact that his father came from a long line of KINGS! Far more royal than the folks who first came he from Europe!

Re: Poll: Many doubt Obama born in U.S.

What path am I going down?

I was simply pointing out the type of voters that cast their vote in the last election cycle!

I am sure there are uninformed voters on both sides of the aisle...

I am not a partisan hack like you, but keep trying!

I think both parties are worthless to some degree!

But if you would like to open up a discourse on policy - then yes I will walk down that path with you...only if you stick to the facts instead of attacks!
