A poll shows low name recognition in the 2010 Senate race.
The survey by the conservative Civitas Institute think tank shows incumbent Republican Sen. Richard Burr with 37 percent favorable ratings, slightly higher than two possible opponents.
Attorney General Roy Cooper had 32 percent favorable, while U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler had 17 percent favorable.
At the same time, Burr had a higher unfavorable rating of 10 percent, compared to 2 percent each for Cooper and Shuler.
Thirty percent had no opinion of Burr, compared to 21 percent for Cooper and 20 percent of Burr.
"All three candidates have a tremendous amount of work to do to familiarize themselves with voters over the next two years," said executive director Francis De Luca.
The live-caller survey of 600 likely voters was conducted Jan. 19-22. It had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
