Under the Dome

Perdue says she's the only one preventing a GOP takeover

If Gov. Bev Perdue loses re-election, her campaign says Republicans will control both chambers of the legislature and the governor's mansion, opening the door to "reckless and unnecessary attacks on North Carolina's schools."

The sharp, keep-a-check-on-the-GOP message is prominent in Perdue's latest fundraising appeal and a foreshadow of a mantra sure to get repeated in the next year as the governor's race heats up.

"You see, the Republicans know that there's only one person standing between them and their agenda for North Carolina. That's Governor Perdue," writes from campaign manager Fiona Conroy.

Titled "Inadequate," the pitch from campaign manager Fiona Conroy says the GOP needs to be more committed to schools and notes funding cuts to education in the current budget. It also touts the relocation of Chiquita banana's headquarters to Charlotte, saying education played a key role in attracting the jobs.

The appeal continues the Perdue campaign's strategy of using the legislature -- collectively viewed poorly -- as a foil. "That's why Governor Perdue stands up to the Republicans at every turn when they try to harm our schools," Conroy wrote.

See the full text of the fundraising email below:

Dear Friend,
Recently, when a key Republican leader was being pressed about the GOP's savage cuts to North Carolina's schools, the closest he came to acknowledging their wrongheadedness was to say that Republican funding levels may have been "inadequate."

What an understatement!

I'll tell you what's inadequate: The GOP's commitment to North Carolina's school children.

Governor Perdue is standing up to the GOP's reckless and unnecessary attacks on North Carolina's schools. Can you help her today by making a contribution?

You see, the Republicans know that there's only one person standing between them and their agenda for North Carolina. That's Governor Perdue.

She knows that success in creating jobs and making a brighter future for North Carolina lies in keeping strong schools.  Our quality schools were key to the recent success in attracting the Chiquita Banana corporate headquarters to North Carolina.

That's why Governor Perdue stands up to the Republicans at every turn when they try to harm our schools.

But now we have to stand up for her. The Republicans know she won't sit back while they continue their attacks on our schools. That's why they are building an elaborate network to oppose and attack her relentlessly.

We have to have the resources to fight back."

She may be the only one left

She may be the only one left to prevent those Republicans from storming the gates.  I saw that one of her allies was ordered by the court to stay out of politics.  But surely there are others out there that will help Bev.  Oh, the humanity!

Heaven Help US

Heaven help us if this is the best we can do!!!  Really looking forward to 2012 and the refreshing change that will take place in NC.

Bev is a plus for republicans

Bev brings her lottery vote and all the unproductive waste of the lottery, including the misery and her various lapses in ethics from the land down east to the current money hidden from the election....and then there's her blurping out about no congressional elections...she is a  plus in the minus column, one for the republicans.

chiquita banana...

schools played a part in this?? i thought at least in wake county our schools were going to heck in a hand basket?? at least this is what the naacp said. chicquita banana came to this state for one reason...well excuse me $22mm reasons. but we had to offer this much 'cause cincinatti offered $6mm reasons. i guess we had to offer 2 1/2 times what they offered 'cause the naacp has taken over the dem party.

schools attracted Chiquita, really?

"Our quality schools were key to the recent success in attracting the Chiquita Banana corporate headquarters to North Carolina."

Really?  If this is the case for Mecklenburg county, then we should have NO problems attracting even bigger and stronger companies to Wake County.  After all, aren't we the model that school districts the country over are supposed to be replicating?  If it's all true - then where is this great boon of fortune 1000 companies willing to relocate?

If Gov Bev is all that stands between the

GOP and the corrupt democrat party governing this state, we don't have much to worry about.  Bev will be able to devote all of her efforts to avoiding being charged with campaign finance violations, and we will finally, after 130 years, be freed from the corrupt democrat party controlling this state.

On To 2012

Educated One???

You got your post just a tad wrong:  It should read;

At the state and national level, Americans have had enough of the Democrat Party, which has turned into a radical-controlled machine (OWS crowd) that panders to the angry, ignorant, and un-employable while protecting the lazy at the expense of the working classes.

LEAVE ALREADY

I am living for the day when this moron walks out of the mansion for good.  It cannot come fast enough.

Leave it to her...

to give us yet another reason to punt the Gov.  The only reason anyone would follow her is out of idle curiosity to see what useless "go-through-the-motions" inanity she has in store for us next.  The woman gives mediocrity a bad name.

Purdue the only one.

If She is worried about the Schools. The naacp has already beat the Republicans to them...From what I hear any change would be an improvment over what you have.

She is the only one standing

She is the only one standing between McCrory and that new executive chef at the mansion.  I say let's give her another term if she can get the state vehicles counted by November.  If we had Republicans in the General Assembly and in the Governor's Mansion we might have some political scandals like they have up there in Chicago.

Republicans Are Done

At the state and national level, Americans have had enough of the republican party, which has turned into a radical oligarch-controlled machine that panders to the angry, ignorant, and religious while protecting the rich at the expense of the middle class, women, and minorities.
