Perdue preps for inauguration

Gov.-elect Beverly Perdue is getting ready to party.

Several cocktail parties, musical performances from notable North Carolinians and the traditional inaugural ball Friday night should draw more than 4,000.

"For people who gave her money, who have worked for her, it's a big deal," said Democratic consultant Gary Pearce.

The festivities include a $20-a-head concert for younger voters, a sold-out cocktail party for Council of State members at the new Marriott in Raleigh, and a concert at the Lincoln Theater.

Three different concerts will happen at the convention center Friday, with food by Elijah's of Wilmongton, The Gamekeeper of Boone and Second Empire of Raleigh. (N&O)
