Perdue hires new adviser

Gov. Beverly Perdue has hired a new adviser on communications.

Pearse Edwards, currently chief spokesman for Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire, is slated to join Perdue's staff in September as senior communications and policy adviser.

No one is leaving the staff, according to Perdue's Deputy Communications Director, Tim Crowley. He said there is money in Perdue's office budget to cover Edwards' salary, but the exact salary figure will not be available until tomorrow. Edwards makes $125,000 working for Gregoire, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer web site. Perdue's office budget was cut this year along with other agencies.

Perdue's current communications lineup includes, in addition to Crowley, Communications Director David Kochman and Press Secretary Chrissy Pearson.

Edwards is a North Carolina native and has served as Gregoire's communications and external relations director since January 2008, according to the P-I. He previously worked for Microsoft and former Washington Gov. Gary Locke, who is now U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

Perdue's new high priced spin doctor

So that's at least $400,000 of the state's budget that is spent on spin control. She is certainly not leading by example as to how tight money is in Raleigh. And how convenient that this was announced after she signed the budget.

This either proves that there is still a lot of fat that can be cut from the state's budget and/or Beverly has been very ineffective in communicating with her children since becoming Governor. I wouldn't be surprised if she is less visible during her remaining 3 years and instead, depends on her high priced spin doctors to communicate her flip flops, etc. Afterall, every time she opens her own mouth, she inserts her foot.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

Beverly Perdue is an embarrassment to our whole state. Please RESIGN for incompetence.

We'll remember this in November 2010 and 2012.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

The first 8 months of Perdue's Administration has been nothing short of a disaster. I don't think even a top-paid political spinster can get her out of her 27% approval hole

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

"Do as I say and not as I do" Perdue is taking a page from "to seem rather than to be" Easley, and retrenching for the long haul. This economy hasn't finished slowing down, and the more drag taxes and spending make, the slower it's gonna get. Cut taxes and spending now, and we may survive. Don't, and we may not.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

Hmmm... Hire 3 teachers or hire 1 communications specialist to mislead the public on the cuts to education.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

Truly Amazing.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

I guess Perdue knows she will not be in office after the next governor's election so she is going to do everything she can to spend out the wazoo while the rest of the state is on welfare. Bev can certainly be compared to Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. Spend that money Bev; you won't have it after 2012.

Re: Perdue hires new adviser

I recall Gov Gregoire had her very own fit of lunacy a few months ago. She said something incredibly stupid then got really stupid trying to get out from under her original stupid.

This spin doctor should be right at home trying to explain Dumpling's antics ... and "what she really meant to say was ...."

Even if you tried you couldn't make this kind of stuff up!
