Under the Dome

Perdue heads to D.C.

Gov. Beverly Perdue will meet with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood on Wednesday to tell him how much the state needs a new bridge over the Yadkin River.

The Interstate 85 bridge, a few miles northeast of Salisbury, is an aging four-lane bridge built in the 1950s, Barb Barrett reports. It would cost an estimated $335 million to replace.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has a $1.5 billion pot of discretionary money to go to special, big-ticket items around the country. States have to apply for funding, and no state could receive more than $300 million under the program’s rules.

Perdue’s push continues work already begun by state transportation leaders. State Secretary of Transportation Gene Conti visited the White House this spring to talk with federal officials about the state’s needs.

While in Washington on Wednesday, Perdue also has meetings planned with Sens. Richard Burr and Kay Hagan, and with most of the House delegation.

She plans to talk with them about North Carolina’s ongoing budget crisis, its needs from federal recovery efforts and how the state is spending its money so far.

Re: Perdue heads to D.C.

Well, let's admit it - at least if we're going to waste money, it'll be in the Western part of the state, which has gone woefully ignored, aside from the purchase of Grandfather Mountain and some road work around Charlotte - oh, and the attempted theft of a legitimate private business (the Alcoa Yadkin River project).

The Beverly Perdue Bridge

Let's see, the bridge costs a minimum of $335M and the max that the federal government can give any state out of $1.5B is $300M. Do you think that the Feds believe that NC is spending its own money wisely enough to come up with the other $35M or likely much more?

I think that they are going to tell Beverly that she has got to get her own house in order before she comes begging for any more. Beverly, show us you have a backbone and cut some of your own staff before you ask any of us for additional taxes.

A NEW BRIDGE OVER THE YADKIN RIVER? WOW, NOW THAT'S GOING TO SAVE THE STATE FOR SURE. WHAT A WASTE, EXCUSE ME,, WHAT A FURTHER WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY.

I'LL BE GLAD WHEN BEV HEADS ON BACK TO THE CHICKEN HOUSE AND IS GONE GONE GONE FROM NC GOVERNMENT AT ANY LEVEL.

A HAPPY CHICKEN IS A TENDER CHICKEN...(FRANK PERDUE)

Re: Perdue heads to D.C.

Wonder how much of a kickback she expects to stick in her pockets from the Yadkin River Bridge? You can bet your life she'll get some nice kickbacks from the "under the table" contract bids. And she'll be sure to visit her kid while she's in DC. IF she's really in DC. Just a continuation of the famous Sleazely Gang scam.

Ryan heads to D.C.

Ryan is a twerp for leaving us.
