Pedestrian Bridge to state government complex going up

Work will begin on a new pedestrian bridge project on Friday June 14 over Salisbury Street as part of the state government complex, the Department of Administration announced.

Salisbury Street will be closed to traffic between Peace and Lane Streets on Friday at 6 p.m. And will reopen no later than Monday at 5 a.m. The bridge will link Parking Deck #64 to the lower end of Halifax Mall. Construction is expected to be completed in December at a cost of $106,845.

The steel bridge will include 1,500 aluminum panels and will be illuminated with LED light for foot traffic after dark, to provide a shimmering effect for street traffic below.

The current concrete bridge was built in 1975 and has een closed since 2008 because of disrepair.
