Under the Dome

Pat McCrory defends his board post with Tree.com

In their TV ad, Democrats are hitting Republican Pat McCrory for his connections to Tree.com, notably his tenure on the company's board of directors. Dome asked McCrory about the issue earlier this year. Here's some excerpts from the conversation:

McCrory said there is no conflict about his tenure on the board and his campaign. "I'm allowed to make a living while seeking political office," he said. "I'm proud of my ability to make a living."

Instead of a political liability, McCrory said his board post is an asset. "It keeps me in tune with what's happening in the private sector," he said. "My board work is extremely beneficial to my understanding of the pressures that are in the private sector."

As for the mortgage lawsuits in South Carolina, McCrory wouldn't discuss his thoughts on the issue. "I know it was settled. That's all I know," he said. "It's inappropriate for me to talk about specific board work. Every corporation has lawsuits."

"defends board post on Tree.com ..... " ???

First of all - Does North

First of all - Does North Carolina really want a Charlotte lobbyist as it's Governor?

Second - He took the Board position at Lending Tree after all the lawsuits were public while he was still Mayor of Charlotte. I guess he knew he would eventually work as a lobbyist for Moore and Van Allen, the second biggest lobbying firm in the state.
