Under the Dome

Pat McCrory boasts $1.7 million haul with $3.1 million in war chest

Pat McCrory will report he raised about $1.7 million for his gubernatorial campaign in the first fundraising period this year, his campaign announced.

The presumptive Republican nominee is building a solid war chest as his Democratic rivals battle ahead of the May 8 primary. He has $3.14 million cash on hand.

Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton and former Congressman Bob Etheridge have not yet released their numbers. Campaign finance reports from Jan. 1 through April 20 are due Monday.

McCrory's haul just barely exceeds the $1.6 million first quarter total from his unsuccessful bid 2008 when he was vastly outspent by Gov. Bev Perdue. But this time McCrory is launching into the campaign season with more money in the bank. He started the year with $2 million cash on hand. At this point four years ago, he had $332,000 in the bank.

His fundraising is strong thanks to help from GOP heavyweights like Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and Bobby Jindal, who have all appeared at fundraisers for McCrory.

We can only hope

We can only hope for a McCrory victory.  The scandals among the Democrats in the party offices and in state government are getting embarrassing.
