Under the Dome

On Wright, then and now

"The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats."

— Republican presidential candidate John McCain, in an April 23 e-mail to the head of the N.C. Republican Party, after it announced it would air an ad about Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"To tell you the truth, Bill, I don't know why that association isn't discussed more, because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country."

— Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, in an Oct. 6 column by conservative thinker William Kristol in The New York Times

A poster made the comment: "I sincerely hope, for once, that negative campaigning will backfire."

I too am concerned about the negative campaigning. The use of the opposing candidate's photo concerns me. I mean the campaigns take the worst looking photos of their opponent and plaster them all over the tv. It just seems to be in poor taste. They take the photos of the candidate in bad lighting situations or take old photos with hippie hairstyles. And it is really offensive when they do it to the women. Some of the photos are awful and all these women candidates are beautiful in their own way.

Maybe the candidates could provide official photos when they file for office and they could be the only photos used by both campaigns.

Some of the photos the campaigns use are frightening to little children and the elderly and it's not even Halloween. Of course I never saw a bad photo of that Richard Moore. My wife thinks he looks good in any light and I will admit that he is a nice looking guy. Some of the other candidates, not so much.

Re: On Wright, then and now

Rev. Wright will be an excellent replacement for Billy Graham who has previously served as a pastor to many Presidents. Rev. Wright has a very soothing delivery and I am sure he can bring us all together.

Re: On Wright, then and now

Right, because the people don't care about issues. The economy? Health care? Who cares about that, let's just dig up dirt on the other guy. /sarcasm off.

I'm thinking the latest PPP results show that people in NC do care about the issues, and are paying attention. I sincerely hope, for once, that negative campaigning will backfire.

Re: On Wright, then and now

Good for Palin and the NC GOP. They seem to know how to actually win an election, unlike McCain.
